Hotel Maciá Alfaros is located in the street of the same name, running below the barbican of the Roman city walls and bordering the originally Arab neighbourhood of la Axarquía. From this historical spot, the hotel's architectural design comes as a surprise to visitors, as it reflects the different cultures (mainly Roman and Arab) that have helped to write the history of the city of Córdoba. A welth of remains from this period have survised in the city, elements which have inspired much of the decoration of Hotel Maciá Alfaros, such as the tapestries and mosaics, reviving the elegance of Roman times with criteria in keeping with modern classicism. Hotel Maciá Alfaros contains many details reminiscent of the superb artistic manifestations of al-Andalus: ornate tracery, traditional tiling, columns and arches, among other elements appear to have been taken from the Great Mosque or Madinat az-Zahra, creating a delightful and enchanting atmosphere. For example, the hotel's interior includes a small, intimate square and several cool and peaceful patios or courtyards, such as the Patio de los Alarifes, which takes its inspiration from la Axarquía.
