Geographic location Situated on a panoramic hilltop 4 kilometers outside Pienza (in the Crete Senesi) 30 km south of Siena in the heart of the Artistic, Cultural, and Natural Park of the Val d'Orcia. An ancient farmhouse that was built in the 14th century on land once inhabited by the Etruscans. The farmhouse has been entirely renovated, though its original features and period furnishings have been maintained. Just four kilometers outside the town of Pienza, a road winds its way around the area's characteristic "crete senesi" or clay mounds and leads up to the panoramic spot where the Agriturismo Cretaiole is perched. This fully renovated, 14th century farmhouse of Etruscan origin is located in the heart of our property and in the center of the Artistic and Natural Park of the Val d'Orcia. Although you will relax a great deal at Cretaiole, you will never be bored. Indeed, you can learn how to make pasta by hand, walk on nature trails or ride mountain bikes. It is also possible to taste Brunello and Nobile wines at small wineries in Montalcino, visit olive oil presses, tour Pienza’s ancient Hermitage (located on our property), and depending on the season, take part in grape harvesting, olive picking, and truffle digs in our truffle field.
