Despite being only a couple of hours from Cancun, Holbox Island is still a very genuine and relaxing place. The Island is located in the north-east of the Yucatan peninsula, where the gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean Sea. Villas Chimay offer transfer service from Cancun (air conditioned mini van or taxi) and can also organize a scenic flight for you! It is a one hour flight from Cancun to Holbox with a small airplane (max. 5 persons).. There are also daily buses traveling from Cancun to Merida to Chiquilá, where you can get the ferry to the island. Ferries leave about every 2 hours from 6 am to 7 pm. Directions by car: From Cancun to Chiquilá By car it takes about 2.5 hours. You take the freeway no. 180 (Libre) direction Mérida and turn right direction Kantunilkin in El Ideal (kilómetro 80). After another 80 km you reach Chiquilá from where you take the ferry to Holbox Island. In Chiquilá you will find controlled parking lots which cost aprox. 30 - 40 Pesos/day (depending on the size of your car). Do not bring your car to Holbox. The ferry leaves on a irregular bases and is not really meant for private cars. From Mérida to Chiquilá By car it takes aprox. 4 hours. You take the Mérida-Cancun road no. 180. If you take the highway get off in Valladoloid (last exit). Turn left in El Ideal direction Kantunilkin. After 80 km you arrive in Chiquilá where you take the ferry to Holbox island.
